It’s been quite the season for Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings.
The three-time All-Star has averaged 19.8 points and 13.7 rebounds in 2023-24.
As you can see, that’s a double-double, which is no surprise because he is now the reigning double-double champion in the NBA.
On Monday night, Sabonis scored 11 points and 13 rebounds against the Philadelphia 76ers, giving him his 54th consecutive double-double of the year.
That is an NBA record and surpassed the old one held by Kevin Love, who celebrated Sabonis on Twitter.
And counting…!!! Congrats to the new Double-Double 👑 https://t.co/GdrhDyvSTO

54 double-doubles is the longest streak since the ABA-NBA merger.
For the season, Sabonis has 67 of them, a stunning number and proof of just how dominant a player he is.
Sabonis has been with the Kings for several seasons now but this is considered his best and most important year.
It’s not just because of the numbers, but because of how he ties the team together, holds down the offense and defense, and works well with others.
It has taken many years but the Kings now have their best roster in years, propelled not only by Sabonis but also by the expert work of De’Aaron Fox running the backcourt.
The Kings are the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-29 record.
That means they currently have a path to the playoffs, although the Dallas Mavericks are hot on their heels in the standings.
The real goal with the Kings is to make the postseason and get out of the first round, something they failed to do last season.
A whole year has passed, the team has more experience, and Sabonis is putting up eye-popping numbers.
All of that is very good news for the Kings as the playoffs approach.
